Hi everyone, plan to check out these events by Bear Bergman.
If you haven’t read hir stuff, Bergman has written a bunch of beautiful and thought-provoking stories, essays, poetry, and solo theatre works. Ze travels around putting on workshops and readings all over the place, and will be in Halifax and Wolfville in early February.
Bear will be presenting a talk called “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Gender” at Acadia University on Monday, Feb 4:
“Just exactly what is a transsexual, anyway, and how do they get that way? How is transsexual different from transgender, exactly? And what is genderqueer, and why do the words keep changing, and none of these newspaper articles make sense, and can’t you kids today just make up your damn minds!? An informational and personal lecture about hormones, surgeries, ‘social gender’, gatekeepers, identification (and its discontents), and all the nuts, bolts, mechanics, fears, hopes, and dreams before and beneath a gender change. Rated M for mythbusting.”
- Monday, Feb 4, 7PM
- K. C. Irving Building, University Avenue, Acadia Campus
Valley Youth Project volunteers will be gathering in the lobby of the K. C. Irving building at 6:30PM. If you’d like to join us, you’re invited. Whether you’ve attended the drop-ins or not, feel free to come say hello. We’ll head it to the auditorium at 6:45 or so.
If you’re not familiar with the Acadia campus, here’s a detailed campus map. The K.C. Irving building is on University Avenue (it’s building #32).
Bear is also presenting a talk called “Is It Okay To Ask My Question?“, at Acadia at 2:30PM on Monday, as well as some events in Halifax (see the calendar on Bear’s website for details).
