The Halifax office of the Youth Project is putting on a Queer Prom again, with no restrictions about whether you’re a student or what school you go to. The theme is “Carnival” — there are rumours of lions, tigers and bears. Well, maybe only as costumes. Feel free to dress fancy or not — whatever suits you (no pun intended!). LGTBQ+ youth and allies, 19 and under, are all welcome, and the Valley Youth Project will be providing transportation.
- Wednesday, June 22th, 8pm – 11pm
- Atlantica Hotel, Halifax
- Ages 19 and under
- If you’re 17 or under, you need a permission form — see below!
- Drug and alcohol free
- Security will be present
- Chaperones include YP staff, as well as other supportive volunteer adults
We will meet at the Louis Millett Community Centre at 6:30PM. We expect to be back at the LMCC by 12:30 that night. If someone will be picking you up at the LMCC, you can tell them to meet you there at 12:30 that night. If you would like to use VYP transportation to get from the LMCC to your home, your return time will be as soon after that as we can get you there.
To sign up for a drive, just use the regular Transportation Request form, any time until Friday, June 17. Make sure to let us know if we are picking you up at home or at the LMCC.
You’re welcome to bring your fancy duds and change at the dance — an entire section of the hotel, including washrooms, is reserved.
As always, your contact info is 100% confidential. Make sure to give us a phone or email address where we can leave a message — we need contact info for everyone in case of last-minute changes.
If you are 17 or under, you will also need a consent form that must be signed by a parent/guardian. We can email you the form if you let us know in the comments; or, you can download and print it. If your parent or guardian is dropping you off at the LMCC, we’ll have extras that they can sign right there and then.
Let the fun begin!
